Metamask® Extension

MetaMask is an extension for accessing Ethereum enabled distributed applications, or "Dapps" in your browser! Watch an introductory video here.

MetaMask has emerged as a pivotal tool for navigating the decentralized web. It's not just a wallet but a gateway to decentralized applications (dApps) on the Ethereum blockchain. If you're new to the world of cryptocurrencies and dApps, installing and using the MetaMask extension can seem daunting. However, with this guide, you'll learn how to safely install, set up, and use MetaMask for your transactions and interactions with the decentralized ecosystem.

What is MetaMask?

MetaMask is a free, open-source browser extension that functions as a cryptocurrency wallet connected to the Ethereum blockchain. It allows users to store Ether (ETH) and other ERC-20 tokens, interact with Ethereum-based dApps directly from their browser, and manage their identities securely.

Installing MetaMask

  1. Choose Your Browser: MetaMask is compatible with Chrome, Firefox, Brave, and Edge. Ensure you're using one of these browsers.

  2. Download the Extension: Visit the official MetaMask website (https://metamask.io/) and click on the "Download" button. Choose your browser and follow the prompt to add MetaMask to your extensions.

  3. Installation Confirmation: Once the installation is complete, the MetaMask icon (a colorful fox) will appear in your browser's extension area.

Setting Up MetaMask

  1. Open MetaMask: Click on the MetaMask icon in your browser to open the extension.

  2. Create a New Wallet: If you're a first-time user, you'll need to create a new wallet. MetaMask will guide you through creating a new password.

  3. Secure Your Wallet: MetaMask will provide you with a secret recovery phrase. Write it down and store it in a safe place. This phrase is crucial for recovering your wallet if you forget your password or lose access to your device.
